The Alchemist's Dream is a large-scale abstract straw marquetry work on wood panel — 24" × 60" — made with hand-dyed rye straw. A broad field of soft ivory gives way to a meandering band of rich umber and deep walnut brown tones, creating movement through geometric rhythm. Float framed in maple.

Background: Alchemy is the ancient pursuit of turning base materials, like lead, into gold. To me, this is the essence of my chosen medium, elevating a humble grass into something radiant. Here, I’ve turned straw into my interpretation of a literal vein of gold.
