Enveloped is a straw marquetry fiber artwork that exudes radiance and warmth. Made from hand-dyed rye straw arranged to form concentric diamonds, the composition moves from deep brown at the edges through coppery rusts to a warm coral center. The directional grain of the straw in each diamond varies so that each section catches the light differently — this gives the surface a beautiful tactile shimmer that shifts as you move past it. Float framed in black, 30in x 40in.

I made this piece with hand-made quilts in mind. Quilts are often made by people we know, so pulling one around yourself is a way of staying close to the maker.
