Enveloped

$0.00

Enveloped is a straw marquetry fiber artwork that exudes radiance and warmth. Made from hand-dyed rye straw that is cut and laid to form concentric diamonds, the composition moves from deeper brown at the edges through coppery rusts to a warm coral center. The directional lay of the straw varies in each diamond so that each section catches the light differently, giving the surface a tactile shimmer that shifts as you move past it. Presented in a black float frame, 30in x 40in.

I made this piece with hand-made quilts in mind — objects that are both functional and often deeply personal. A handmade quilt carries the spirit of the person who made it, so pulling one around yourself is a way of staying close to the maker. Enveloped grows from that same feeling: the sensation of being held, of warmth that comes not just from temperature but from another person's presence.

Part of the Warmth Series — This series draws inspiration from historic American quilt blocks — objects made by hand, often by mothers and grandmothers, passed down through generations. There's something unpretentious about that kind of making: patient, precise, and offered as an act of love.
